Born into a musical family, violinist June Chung began violin lessons at the age of 3 with her father. Since then, she has performed in solo and chamber recitals across the U.S. and South Korea. She has participated in masterclasses with artists from renowned ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, Emerson String Quartet, Juilliard String Quartet, MET Opera Orchestra, among others.

Passionate about teaching, June taught at the Leonia Conservatory of Music from 2016-2024, before moving to Boston to pursue her graduate studies. She has served as an orchestra sectional coach for NEC’s Preparatory program, as well as teaching with Boston Hope Music, a program founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, which provides music lessons to healthcare workers at Massachusetts General Hospital. She has also served as a Teaching Fellow or Boston Philharmonic Orchestra with their Crescendo Music Education program. June currently teaches with Boston Music Project, Kinglsey Montessori School, and maintains a large private violin and viola studio at Cambridge Music Consortium.

Equally enthusiastic about music administration and community engagement, she was a Nova Fellow at NEC in 2023 where she served as executive director, producing the school’s first prom event in history. She served as an ambassador for NEC’s Center for Cultural Equity and Belonging (now renamed the Huddle), where she planned community-wide events to promote wellness and connection. Her ensembles were also selected for NEC’s Community Performances and Partnerships’ Ensemble Fellowship, Holiday Ensemble Fellowship, and Community Fellowship through which her groups curated engaging concerts for senior care homes in and around the Boston area. She also appeared as a guest artist in the Meraki String Quartet in January 2024 for the Robert Mann String Quartet Institute at the Manhattan School of Music.

June was named the Student Speaker for NEC’s 2024 Commencement Ceremony and is a recipient of the 2024 Emerging Artist Award from the St. Botolph Club Foundation. She performed and presenting her projects at the annual SBCF Performance and Exhibit, “New Voices, New Visions“ in October. 2024, resulting in a collaborative performance with other recipients from NEC.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from the Mannes College of Music under the tutelage of Ann Setzer, for whom she was a teaching assistant at the Meadowmount School, and graduated with honors from the New England Conservatory with her master’s and a concentration in Teaching Artistry and Music Education, studying with Paul Biss. She recently graduated with her graduate diploma from NEC, studying with Paul Biss and Ayano Ninomiya.

June plays on a beautiful 1680 Cappa, borrowed from her father.
